The Sumatra tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is a subspecies of tiger whose habitats are lowland and mountainous rain forests on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, a large island in western Indonesia. According to the Tiger Information Center and the World Wildlife Fund there are fewer than 500 tigers remaining in the wild, living in mostly unprotected game reserves and national parks. The Sumatra Tiger is classified by the IUCN as critically endangered.

Deforestation resulting from the production of palm oil is a major threat to the Sumatran Tiger. The reserves also do not provide safety, as many tigers are killed by poachers each year despite conservation efforts.
